I was extremely fortunate this year to receive a DNA11 Portrait as a birthday gift.  Being a Science Geek at heart this was quite an exciting gift to be given!

This creative and insanely personally gift is the result of DNA11's "pioneered application of genetic science." The DNA11 website sells this product with the statement, "Frame your inner beauty" which could not be more charming.


The kit that was bought for me was ordered from one of my favorite online shopping stores, ThinkGeek. However you can locate this product on the official DNA11 website along with their other products, Fingerprint Portrait and Kiss Portrait's.

The only negative (and it really was NOT a drawback to be honest) aspect of this 'gift' process was the amount of time you will wait before your final portrait to be delivered. That being said, the wait is completely worth it!

I promptly received the 'DNA collection kit' and I was impressed with the packaging the moment I peeled the bad-boy opened. The kit contains a Swab for DNA collection, a DNA collection card and the packaging needed to return the sample for processing.

I was glad to see that DNA11 took the time to provide clear and concise directions for 'collecting' the sample. Heck, they even included pictures! This made the sterile collection and repacking ridiculously simple! 

So simple a child could do it!

  

Aside from the nerdy cheek swabbin' you will be able to choose the colors for your portrait and even add a little personalized statement. I was relieved to find that a vivid insert had been included with the kit that showed examples of the color schemes available. I must admit that I changed my mind several times before I selected 'Flamingo'. 

I returned my sample to the address provided and I was able track my package as well because I followed the advice of DNA11 and shipped the package with a $1 value. After my package reached the processing center I waited the quoted 6 weeks for my portrait to be completed.

The DNA11 website offers ample information about the process implemented as well as tips on how to interpret (or at the very least view) markers on your portrait. Likewise, you can view the other products they are able to create. 

When I received my portrait I was pleased to see that DNA11 took consideration in protecting my portrait. The box was in excellent condition and they spared no expense where the bubble-wrap was concerned. Inside the packing I found discount cards for Canvas Pop which happens to be an amazing company as well.   Lastly, as if they had not stroked my nerd-tummy enough already they sent a Certificate of Authenticity. For anyone who has ever collected anything that was numbered or listed as 'limited edition' you know exactly how rad it felt to have a Certificate of Authenticity for my own DNA!

If you know someone who enjoys the geek side of art or someone who appreciates unique and personal gifts, I would suggest this as an option.  I could not be more pleased with the final product; now the only problem I am facing is where I should display it!
